    The Governor's Office of State Planning and Budgeting (OSPB) provides the Governor with timely and complete information and recommendations necessary to make sound public policy and budget decisions. Our mission is to foster the responsible use of state resources through effective and efficient planning, budgeting, and evaluation of state programs in a manner that is performance and outcome-focused.


    OSPB seeks talented professionals trained in budget, policy, and economics to join our leadership team.  We invite interested candidates, as well as staff seeking internal promotion, to submit an application for the following leadership position.

    We are seeking an experienced individual to join our team as a Deputy Director for Budget.  As part of the leadership team, the Deputy Director for Budget advances the mission of OSPB.

    Governor/Director goals: 
    The Deputy Director for Budget will be responsible for reforming the budget process to deliver a significant level of budget savings from responsible proposals.

    Management responsibilities:
    The Deputy Director for Budget will be responsible for leading a team of 4-5 to manage the following responsibilities for the Office, among others:
    • Deliver budget on-time and within guidance for principal departments.  
    • Manage OSPB operations and budget
    • Develop communications/press responses
    • Lead statewide budget process & review (includes scorekeeping and topline strategy, GF baseline and balancing, and PB database management)
    • Lead asset/technology management
    • Serve as principal liaison to statewide Budget Directors group
    • Manage statewide common policies, including employee compensation 
    • Plan analyst training & development
    • Improve customer service in OSPB and statewide
    This position is anticipated to have budget responsibility for the following principal departments of state government:
    • Governor's Office
    • Office of Information Technology
    • Personnel and Administration
    • Revenue
    • Military and Veteran Affairs
    • PERA


    7-10 years of related work experience is required.
    Bachelor's degree is required, a graduate degree in a related field is preferred.  

    Preferred competencies include:
    • Experience developing and managing budgets for large organizations
    • Experience running an office and delivering for customers
    • Conducting analysis for senior-level stakeholders
    • Effective oral communications
    • Effective written communication skills
    • Data management
    • Data visualization
