    Position Title: Policy and Budget Analyst

    Job Description:

    As the Policy and Budget Analyst you will work with state agencies throughout the budget development process and help agencies apply statewide policy to build the Agency Request Budget. You will examine agency requests and make recommendations to the Governor for development of the Governor's Budget. You will represent and explain the Governor's budget recommendations to the Legislature and other groups. 

    You will also work with state agencies in the execution of their budgets. You will monitor agency budget performance, approve or deny allotment of agency funds, analyze agency program and staffing requests, and make recommendations on agency requests to the Legislative Emergency Board or Interim Joint Ways and Means Committees.

    Working Conditions:

    You may travel to all parts of the state, including rural and wilderness areas, into mental health and correctional facilities.

    Seasonally, you may experience pressure to meet tight deadlines and may be required to work more than 40 hours a week.

    What Are We Looking For?

    To be considered for this position you must meet the following minimum qualifications:

    Seven years of experience and responsibility: (a) analyzing information from complex statewide systems; (b) identifying organization wide financial issues; (c) generating alternatives and implementing solutions to resolve these issues; and (d) building consensus and consistency across entities with unrelated missions.

    • A Bachelor's degree will substitute for three years of experience.
    • A Master's or higher level degree will substitute for four years of experience.

    Additionally the successful candidate will have:

    • Experience reviewing, researching, analyzing, evaluating and managing complex budget and policy issues.
    • Experience preparing and presenting recommendations and reports for a variety of recipients.
    • Experience working in teams (to include staff, external organizations and/or elected officials) to bring multi-faceted assignments to a successful conclusion.
    • Skill in communicating effectively (orally and in writing) as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
