    The Legislative Analyst's Office (LAO) is a dynamic, merit-based organization that values excellence, expertise, teamwork, service, and diversity.

    The LAO has provided nonpartisan fiscal and policy analysis to the California Legislature since 1941. The primary activities of the LAO are to:
    • Assist the Legislature in all aspects of the budget process through its analytical and oversight activities.
    • Respond to legislative requests for information about and analysis of the state's budget and programs.
    • Conduct independent studies and produce self-generated reports on topics of importance to the state.

    They deal with real-world problems that directly affect the public and assist the Legislature in setting budget priorities and state policy for one of the world's largest economies. Working independently as well as in teams, they serve as the eyes and ears of the California Legislature to ensure that state-funded programs are operating in an efficient and effective manner.

    The Position
    The Administrative Manager supervises support staff responsible for production and officewide administrative activities. The person in this role will be responsible for the oversight and supervision of all administrative staff as well as administrative functions for the LAO to include but not limited to payroll, benefits, budget preparation, special projects, forecasting, and other duties as assigned by the Legislative Analyst. This position reports directly to the Legislative Analyst.

    Ideal Candidate
    The ideal candidate will have very strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. They will have extensive experience managing, overseeing, and/or supporting administrative functions for a government entity. They will be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external constituents. They will have experience, proficiency, and ability to utilize Microsoft Office products to include advanced Excel capabilities, as well as Word, Outlook, and others as needed to develop, convey, and relay information related to assigned projects and areas of responsibility.

    Salary and Benefits
    The salary for this position is $7,781 to $8,838 per month. The LAO also provides a comprehensive package of health, vision, dental, and retirement benefits. In addition, the LAO provides vacation, sick leave, compensatory time off for overtime above a specified level, and about 13 holidays per year.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Competitive applicants meet or exceed the minimum qualifications listed below: A bachelor's degree in accounting or economics or a related field that includes quantitative curriculum. A master's degree is preferred. Plus, four years of experience completing office administrative tasks to include but not limited to payroll, budget preparation and forecasting, and benefits, two of which must include serving in a supervisory capacity, or equivalent combination education or experience. Experience completing administrative work for a government agency preferred.
