    The State of Connecticut, Connecticut Insurance Department (CID), is looking to hire an Insurance Accredited Financial Examiner for the Department of Insurance, Field Financial Examination Unit.

The department carries out its mission by enforcing state insurance laws to ensure policyholders are treated fairly, by providing assistance, outreach, and education to help consumers make sound choices, and by regulating the industry in a fair and consistent manner that fosters market competition for the availability of insurance.
     
    POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
     
    • Monday - Friday
    • Full-time (40 hours per week)
    • First shift (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM)
    • Location:  153 Market Street in Downtown Hartford, easily accessible for commuters
    • Hybrid (in-office/telework)
     
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
    Seven (7) years of experience in one or more of the following areas: regulatory examination of financial condition or market conduct of insurance companies; accounting, auditing and/or actuarial work in the insurance industry.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
    One (1) year of the General Experience must have been at the professional working level of an insurance examiner/auditor.
     
    NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of Insurance Examiner or Insurance Examiner (Examination and Market Conduct).
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
    • College training in accounting, insurance, business, finance, actuarial science, or economics may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
    • A Master's degree in accounting, insurance, business or economics may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
    • Certification as a Certified Internal Auditor may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Experience conducting and leading financial audits, including risk assessments and processing procedures.
    • Experience with auditing or examining insurance entities to assess and test control design and operating effectiveness.
    • Experience with documenting audits or examination issues to communicate to an insurer.
    • Oral and written communication skills.
    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Incumbents must possess at time of appointment and maintain during employment the designation of Accredited Financial Examiner (AFE) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
    • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
    • Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
