    The State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is recruiting for a Supervising Accounts Examiner position.

    • Monday - Friday
    • Full-time
    • First shift (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, flexible)
    • Location:  Wethersfield, CT
    • Hybrid work environment (combination of on-site and remote work)

    In a state agency this class is accountable for supervising an accounts examination unit or function.


    • Schedules, assigns, oversees, and reviews the work of staff; 
    • Provides staff training and assistance; 
    • Conducts performance evaluations; 
    • Determines priorities and plans unit work; 
    • Establishes and maintains unit procedures; 
    • Develops or make recommendations on the development of policies and standards; 
    • Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies, and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; 
    • Prepares reports and correspondence; 
    • Reviews audit reports for conformance with policies and regulations; 
    • May conduct hearings or conferences with those audited; 
    • Performs related duties as required.


    • Considerable knowledge of 
      • and ability to apply relevant state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations;
      • and ability to apply relevant agency policies and procedures;
      • professional accounting and auditing principles and practices;

    Eight (8) years of experience in accounting or auditing.


    One (1) year of the General Experience must have been performing the most complex accounting function or acting in a lead or consultative capacity at the level of an Associate Accountant or an Associate Accounts Examiner.


    • College training in accounting or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree
    • A Master's degree in accounting may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience
    • Certification as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.


    • Experience with current practices regarding internal controls and fraud prevention
    • Experience using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
    • Experience overseeing performance and compliance audits
    • Experience identifying potential risk in processes and transactions relating to financial and operational controls
    • Experience reporting and analyzing audit results and presenting them to the internal and external stakeholders
    • Experience evaluating related action plans and financial process improvement opportunities
    • Certifications of Certified Internal Auditor or Certified Public Accountant
    • Experience with overseeing Fiscal and Accounting staff


    Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
