This role will work closely with the Office of Research Facilities (ORF) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).     Job Description

    The Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for all aspects of federal budget execution, including daily reporting, updating dashboards, and ad hoc queries. We are looking for someone who is comfortable learning new software and knows how to harness technology to accomplish project goals. The ideal candidate will have strong, proven interpersonal skills. The individual will be adept at completing multiple projects and have excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Experience with federal financial analysis is required for this position.

    • Salary Range: $108,000 - $123,000 (how we pay and promote)

    Responsibilities

    • Reviews the quality of budget and financial data to identify data quality issues, identify data gaps, ensure compliance with financial policies and reconcile budget balances.
    • Compiles budget and other financial data in the preparation of budgets, forecasts and other financial reports and analyses.
    • Ensures financial spending conforms to federal and NIH budgetary policies and limits.
    • Periodically analyzes trend data affecting budgetary and financial trends and develops meaningful and useful reports for stakeholders.
    • Prepares recommendations to conform with budgetary policies and achieve financial objectives.
    • May support data entry and recordkeeping of budget and financial information.
    • Develops briefing materials for senior executives and develop approaches to solve complex issues requiring advanced knowledge of finances, budgeting, regulations, or policy.
    • Utilizes financial modeling and data analytic tools to analyze data and produce financial summaries.
    • Mentors both junior and senior team members and review the technical work of team members, before delivery.
    • Develops automated forecasting and reporting tools to increase productivity.
    • Contribute to the development and monitoring of KPIs and financial metrics and explains unexpected variances.
    • May contribute to proposal writing and technical solutions for relevant projects.
    • May contribute to the selection or implementation of technologies that support financial and budgeting activities.
    • Contributes to new processes and procedures to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the team's operations.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    Minimum Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field
    • 9 years of relevant experience

    Basic Requirements

    • Federal budget formulation or execution experience
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including proficiency with pivot tables
    • Ability to access and manipulate significant amounts of complex data
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Highly organized, efficient, and extremely detail-oriented
    • Ability to prioritize among multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
    • Ability to work independently and know when to seek assistance
    • Demonstrated strength in verbal and written communication skills, including professional emails

    Skills That Set You Apart

    • Master's degree in business or related field
    • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and 2016, Access, and government financial systems
    • Experience with Power Platform, including PowerQuery and PowerAutomate
