If so, we encourage you to learn more about this exciting opportunity! Skagit Valley College (SVC) is accepting applications for a Fiscal Technician 2 position. The Fiscal Technician 2 will perform support duties in the Business Office, and the Cashier Station. This position will be the first point of contact to greet customers as they enter the Business Office.  The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Accounting Manager.
    This is a full-time, classified position in the Business Office located at the campus in Mount Vernon, Washington.  

    Nestled between the Cascade Mountains and Puget Sound in the northwest corner of Washington State, Skagit Valley College is located 60 miles north of Seattle and 80 miles south of Vancouver, BC.  SVC was established in 1926 in Mount Vernon.  Operating as one college with several campuses and centers, SVC serves Skagit, Island and San Juan Counties with campuses in Mount Vernon and Oak Harbor, centers in Friday Harbor and Langley, and a Marine Manufacturing and Technology Center in Anacortes.

    Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Provide quality customer service, greet staff and students as they enter the Business Office;
    • Help maintain office files both paper and electronic;
    • Assist Student Financial staff in verifying daily deposits of cashiers;
    • Aid Student Financial staff in answering questions regarding customer accounts;
    • Assist with physical inventory and entry of asset entry into tracking systems
    • Help with AR direct deposits;
    • Assist with travel expense records and ensure compliance with state and college regulations and procedures;
    • Process accounts payable checks for mailing on a daily basis;
    • Match the daily checks with proper paperwork and audit for accuracy;
    • Assist the Accounting Manager to verify the daily deposits of all the cashiers;
    • Assist with reconciling the monthly bank statements;
    • Sort and distribute payroll checks for mailing;
    • Assist the Accounting Manager to verify the accuracy of the daily bookstore reports for the month-end accounting;
    • May fill in as back-up Cashier during breaks and absences; 
    • Help with Accounts Payable, Contract and Journal Entry filing;
    • Preform related duties as required.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    Knowledge or understanding of:
    • Skagit Valley College policies and procedures;
    • Accounting principles.
    • Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, internet and search engines;
    • Strong customer service skills
    Ability to:
    • Communicate effectively with individuals both orally and in writing, in English;
    • Recognize when mathematical calculations are incorrect and correct errors;
    • Use critical thinking, reasoning and experience to make sound decisions;
    • Adapt easily to changing business needs, conditions and work responsibilities;
    • Apply practical accounting techniques;
    • Follow written policies and procedures;
    • Work in a team environment;
    • Work with change and interruptions.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Associate in Arts Degree, equivalent education, or higher, in Accounting, Business or equivalent field;
    • Two (2) years of fiscal recordkeeping experience.
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience may be substituted for the education requirement.

     Desired Qualifications:
    • Experience in Washington State Higher Education.
    • College-level accounting or bookkeeping credits.
    • Experience in Peoplesoft/ctcLink operating system.

    Salary and Benefits:
    • Salary is based on Range 34, Step A, $2,738 per month with periodic increments to $3,616 per month.  Starting salary may be dependent on education, qualifications and experience. Salary and benefits are subject to change in accordance with legislative mandates and collective bargaining agreements.
    • This position is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
    • This is a union represented position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
