SEARCH FOR THE SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION
THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND
BIDDEFORD, MAINE
The University of New England prepares students to thrive in a rapidly-changing world and, in so doing, to improve the health of people, communities, and our planet.
THE SEARCH
The University of New England (UNE), Maine's largest private university, is seeking an exceptional and experienced leader to become its next Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration (SVPFA). Reporting directly to President James Herbert, UNE is seeking a strategic and visionary leader with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a commitment to the University's mission of preparing students to thrive in a rapidly-changing world and to improve the health of people, communities, and our planet.
UNE resulted from a merger, in the late twentieth century, of three precursor institutions: St. Francis College, founded in 1939 by Franciscan monks to educate Québecois boys whose families worked in the local mills, Westbrook College, founded in 1831 to educate young women at a time when the doors of higher education were largely closed to them, and The New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, a new medical school formed by a grass roots effort of physicians in Maine. UNE has since grown into a thriving university with three distinctive campuses in Biddeford and Portland, Maine, and Tangier, Morocco, and five unique colleges - the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine, Westbrook College of Health Professions, College of Dental Medicine, and the College of Professional Studies. The University offers flagship programs in the health, life, and environmental sciences, and degrees in business, education, the social sciences and the liberal arts. With Maine's only medical college, physician assistant program, and Northern New England's only dental college, UNE is Maine's primary educator of health care professionals. The University prides itself on ensuring that students graduate with career-ready skills acquired through the marriage of classroom instruction with experiential learning via internships, research, global adventures, and unparalleled student support. It has been recognized as one of the top colleges in the country by US News and World Report, Princeton Review and Money Magazine and by the Brookings Institute as Maine's number one college for increasing career earnings of its students.
The New Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration will join UNE at an exciting time. UNE has never been fiscally stronger. With net assets of $444.5 million, an operating budget of $ million and an endowment of $89 million the University is seeking a leader to serve as a strategic thought partner to President Herbert, the Board, and the senior leadership team. The SVPFA, who oversees a staff of 10 is responsible for budgeting, financial planning, management, and assessment of the financial operations of the University. The SVPFA also manages a complex portfolio of services including facilities management, human resources, information technology, auxiliary services, and enterprise risk management activities.
For this critical position, UNE is seeking a strategic, forward-looking finance professional who is eager to play a central role in supporting the University's growth and excellence. The successful candidate will be a skilled relationship builder and data-driven leader. They will be a leader and a financial expert, a good listener, a collaborator to all departments and divisions, and will create a greater sense of the services and expertise that the Finance Division provides. The SVPFA will also lead initiatives to improve service and increase operational efficiency to ensure the University continues to maximize resources.
